Alaska Earthquake Information Center : 4.9 Quake Today In Anchorage An earthquake was felt on Monday in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city and surrounding towns.The magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck at 3:24pm PDT (1:24 pm) about 10 miles southwest of Anchorage, according to observers.There were no reports of injuries or damage, but people reported that the quake “shook strongly,” said Cindi Preller, a geologist from the center of Tsunamis on the West Coast and Alaska.The temblor was felt over a vast area in the state, including Anchorage, Palmer, Wasilla, Valdez and Homer. The quake is not expected to generate a tsunami.

In Anchorage, Lisa Withers, a witness thought a car had hit the building of her gift shop that operates within Bell Nursery, which carries a great selection of dishes and other fragile items.Some parts covered fell from the stands,” said Withers. “Some customers were nervous about the sound of rattling glass objects.”Alaska Earthquake Information Center is keeping Alaskans informed on the September 20 Alaska earthquake.

The Alaska earthquake information center is a type of hub that receives information about the earthquakes throughout Alaska’s sites. The center also receives information about earthquakes from the Tsunami warning center and the west coast in Palmer. The AEIC has records of the past earthquakes and an estimated twenty two thousand earthquakes occur in the areas under it. The earthquake information center is used to record all the seismic activities and earthquake and it also studies the activities under earth, the center makes public warnings about earthquakes.

There are no reports of any financial or human loss due to the earthquake, the earthquake was not of a very strong magnitude that is why no deaths are expected, but there might be some other damages caused by the earthquake. According to the Alaska earthquake information center the earthquake was caused due to seismic activities under earth and a number of after shocks might also occur. The earthquake was felt at about 7:15pm (local time).
