Joe Torre Adventure Just Catching Popups

Friday, September 17, 2010

Joe Torre
"The only thing that comes to mind about San Francisco: cold as hell," Torre said. "I can still see those hot dog wrappers up against that Cyclone fence in the outfield. It was an adventure just catching popups. The high sky in the daytime and the wind, you hoped the popup would be in foul territory because if it fell, you wouldn't have the guy circling the bases."

I think if any club makes that call to him about managing I don't think it will go any further than just making sure that he is not ready to manage again. I thought during the season that he was either going to come back to the Dodgers next year or he was not going to manage. Clearly he's ready to hang up his managerial spikes. I don't see that changing. His name may be thrown out this winter with jobs that may come open but I don't see real validity to those. I think he's happy.

Joseph Paul Torre (born July 18, 1940) is the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers and a former Major League Baseball player. A nine-time All-Star, he played for the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, and the St. Louis Cardinals. After his retirement as a player, he later managed all three teams.
