According to the KESC spokesman, the decision was taken in connection with the utility’s ongoing policy to motivate non-paying consumers through locally elected representatives for payment of outstanding bills.
In Korangi, the outstanding an amount is about Rs 45 million arrears on commercial and residential consumers of Zaman Town and 100 residential quarters. After the consumers failed to clear the amount in spite of repeated notices, the power supply to these consumers had been halted by disconnecting 11 PMTs linked with these areas.
Later, Provincial Minister Khalid Umar, National Assembly Member (MNA) Asif Husnain and Provincial Assembly Member Amir Moeen took the responsibility of motivating the non-paying consumers and bring them to a payment agreement.
