While the business community flayed the increase in Certificate of Origin by TDAP Wednesday as the representatives of the business community asked why the TDAP enhanced the price of the form for Certificates of Origin without any rationale behind it, which is being issued on a simple piece of paper.
Abdul Wahab Lakhani, Chairman SITE Association of Industry expressed concerns over enhancing the price of the form arbitrarily and without any rhyme or reason from Rs 25 to Rs 100 per page from Jan 1, 2011.
He said the Ministry of Commerce is collecting millions of rupees from exporters on account of export development fund (EDF) at the rate of 0.25 percent then “why the TDAP is enhancing charges on certificates.”
Lakhani said the fee is charged per page in case exported items are under one invoice and several.
Many exporters make small shipments, which could even be worth $1,000, and for each they have to take certificate of origin thereby multiplying their cost.
